Wale Tinubu CON, Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, has received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award at African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, marking him as one of the continent’s most influential energy leaders.
The award, one of AEW’s highest honours, celebrates individuals whose careers demonstrate exceptional vision, resilience, and a lasting impact on Africa’s energy landscape. Tinubu joins a distinguished list of past recipients, including Professor Benedict Okey Oramah, President of Afreximbank, who received the Mohammed S. Barkindo Award in 2024; H.E. Hage Geingob, Former President of Namibia, and H.E. Macky Sall, Former President of Senegal, recognised in 2023; and H.E. Bruno Jean Richard Itoua, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Republic of Congo, in 2022.
In announcing the accolade, the African Energy Chamber praised Tinubu’s “dedication to advancing Africa’s energy security, his bold leadership in navigating Oando through periods of uncertainty and transformation, and his pivotal role in demonstrating the power of indigenous companies in driving industrial growth and energy sovereignty across the continent.”
Tinubu has long been an advocate for African self-determination through resource development. Under his leadership, Oando has grown from a local downstream operator into a multinational integrated energy company with a strong portfolio across exploration and production, power, and renewables.
Believing that success comes from vision, determination, and the right team, Tinubu has become a symbol of African ambition, ingenuity, and resilience. His stewardship of Oando reflects his commitment to harnessing Africa’s abundant resources for the benefit of its people while proving that indigenous companies can thrive in an increasingly competitive global energy sector.
The Lifetime Achievement Award at AEW is regarded as a benchmark of excellence, reserved for leaders whose decades of service and innovation have left a transformative imprint on Africa’s energy future. Tinubu’s recognition, many observers noted, is a fitting tribute to a leader who continues to inspire confidence in Africa’s promise and the power of its people.
